... you go to the Georgia O'Keefe museum in Santa Fe and the only photo you take is of an exhibit on her picture-framing technique.

It's a curse. You notice how poorly tiles are placed, the elevator manufacturer, the paint drips, the door hinges, the placement of the toilet compartments, the wrong color mortar, and all the other details no one else even looks at! And there is no cure.

Lynn,

There may be no cure, but ain't it wonderful. Would we have it any other way?

Oh, it's great! It's fun to look and really see the details. My husband (years ago) told me I was responsible for him almost driving off the street when going through some of the small towns he travelled through as he looked at the buildings he hadn't noticed before! So maybe it's not so much a curse, but a communicable disease?

I also tend to notice fire-safety and accessibility concerns like fire doors propped open, storage next to doors within the 18" accessible zone etc, etc.

On the other hand, the Santa Fe Georgia O'Keefe Museum is excellent, though it has been a number of years since I was there.

When you are a specifier married to a specifier, trips take on a slightly different tone. One of the highlights of our trip this last summer was a tour of the St. Joe Brick Works near Slidell, LA.

Nah, it's kind of more fun to look at all those mistakes, errors, and "what the heck were they thinking" things when you're retired. You not only know it's not your responsibility, you know you aren't expected to do anything about it! And, for the most part, you don't care (except to just shake your head - unless it's a safety issue).
