I just updated my Profile, I let my membership to SCIP expire, I was discussing renewing the membership, but the SCIP member I was talking to died and I got busy with my own family issues. Out of respect for my fellow SCIP members I corrected the profile today. Have fun in Austin guys (+gals), family issues is keeping me away this year (as in previous years) perhaps next year will be better.

No worries, Lynn, it could always be worse, I rebound well, just wish I could make it to another national convention, my last one was Vegas, been saying next year since that one. I'll plan on 2017, anybody know where it will be?

Richard, its not the travel time, my only daughter was hospitalized for 90 days from end of April for complications from pneumonia, after her release she seems to have developed a thyroid condition, her hospital is not being cooperative in releasing her records and since she is adopted, we don't ever know what to expect medically, meanwhile some of her symptoms are impacting me (she lives in my home (also my office) and prefers very cold temps (which I do not). I wake up with frost bite every morning since she has been home. We have no other living family, normally I would just take her to the convention, she is 26 (soon to be 27), and usually a joy to travel with, but for now she needs to be close to home and Austin is not.

We were both looking forward to the Texas trip. my daughter's birth father lives in Texas and I have many friends there, but her health always comes first. I just received a call from her hospital that I should receive medical records in PDF this morning (I'll believe it when I see it).

Peter, as another native Texan, and I assume occasional visitor to Austin (I am a frequent visitor as a large number of family members live there), you may be aware that Austin has lost some of its weirdness. It is still a great place to be, and the music scene is outstanding as always, but I will forever mourn the loss of Armadillo World Headquarters and Liberty Lunch. Ah, the memories (if only I could remember them). [grin]

I am currently researching venues for the SCIP meeting in Providence next year. It's only a 4-day drive from Houston.

And only 45 minutes from Somerville! (Where, you might be thinking, is that? It's my city, located only 3 or 4 miles from downtown Boston, adjacent to the formerly-cool-place-to-live Cambridge. We have taken over Cambridge's mantel in that regard.)
