I have been updated my Metal Wall Panel specification and noticed that the AIA Masterspec calls for structural testing according to ASTM E1592. After doing my own research, most manufacturers, including the ones listed in the AIA Masterspec, don't test structural performance to ASTM E1592 for wall panels. They use ASTM E1592 for roofs and ASTM E330 or ASTM E72 for wall panels. Some won't give me that information. Deltek hasn't responded to my query about this either. Curious what other specifiers are putting in their spec or if they have come across this as well. |

The inclusion in MasterSpec of particular manufacturers, or types of testing requirements, doesn't mean that all or any manufactures test to all or any of the performance requirements. The idea is to give the specifier the option to use what's appropriate for their project. I see that E1592 has been included in the section for at least ten years. This is always a conundrum for specifiers, when manufacturers don't test to the same standards, or even the ones developed for their products. I don't recall what I had done in for projects with metal panels, but I'd probably add E330 if I had to. |
