If a glass guardrail has no rails is it still considered a guardrail? |

The IBC uses the term "guard" separate from the term "handrail". So it seems a "guardrail" without a rail would just be a "guard"...which is what it was all along. Would a guard by any other name...smell as sweet? |

IBC 2018 addresses glass "guards" (they use this term, not "guardrails") in several locations, 1015.2.1, 2406.4.4, and 2407. Section 1015 Guards, 1015.2.1 Glazing, states in part “Where glass is used to provide a guard or as a portion of the guard system, the guard shall com-ply with Section 2407.” Section 2407 is Glass in Handrails and Guards, and goes into detail about allowable glass types, required loading, etc. |

yes and all that was in the 2009 code as well. |
