Brick veneer is a term almost as old as brick masonry. Brick veneer (traditionally) was a layer of face brick installed outside the bearing wall (my grandfather pointed that out to me) "building brick" was used for the load bearing wall. The definition applies to face brick applied over studs or other load bearing assembly. Thin brick is really no different from an exterior tile installation and I have sometimes specified it in Division 09 as "Brick Tile". Russ, apologies for the rant. In response to your question, I do not have direct experience with Parex, but I've used Laticrete and others with thin bricks and haven't experienced any problems. The thin brick was applied on cementitious backing board. If your local code requires continuous outboard insulation then I'm afraid I can't offer advice on that.
