A client has asked for suggestions for access flooring systems capable of producing tiered floors (for lecture hall seating). Does anyone have experience, sources, suggestions to share?

I did find a few links in a search, but have not dealt w/ such as system before. Advice appreciated.

Any standard access floor system can do this, up to a certain height (which may vary among manufacturers). If you wanted to go above the limiting height there'd likely be some structural design involved.

A few years ago, I saw an eps manufacturer promoting their material as an alternative to framing or forming concrete. Looked useful, but I have not seen in use. Do you need access?

Useful ideas all! Thank you 4specs forum participants.

Access is not needed in this case -- my question could have been clearer. The architect is looking for a lightweight alternative to concrete tiers in an existing building that can't support much additional weight.

I have passed on the ideas to my client.

Crazy ideas here as I try to avoid boor
- Welded metal bar grate on cold formed light gage steel.

- I have been reading about brake forming large shapes from steel plate. The riser and tread become beams between walls or girders to reduce applying load on existing floor.

- Contact the athletic bleacher companies. Theater seats can be mounted on their lightweight structures. There are also companies that make theater quality seating that folds against wall like bleachers.

- Hang seats from overhead structure to reduce load on under foot structure.
