A viewing copy of the updated standard (ANSI/WCMA-A100-2018 Standard for Safety of Window Covering Products) is available on WCMA's website: http://www.wcmanet.org/pdf/WCMA-A100-2018_FINAL.pdf |

The standard does a good job of describing and testing numerous types of operators. However, it is not clear as to whether a cord held by a tension device is equivalent to a cordless product, as far as safety is concerned. It also does not (and probably should not) describe where these cordless operators are required. Single and multi-family projects seems obvious. What about elementary schools? Has anyone seen any guidance regarding the types of situations where these operators are required? Or, to err on the side of caution, use them everywhere except when cords are necessary as discussed in the press release? |
