David Axt, where are you, you sir are the Chainlink God, one of my clients wants to know if he can enclose a parking garage with a tight mesh chainlink or if aluminum screen within aluminum frame would be a better solution? The Owner does not like the look of chainlink, but perforated metal is too expensive.

Jerome,

Owner does not like the diamond pattern? The finish?

Have you considered PVC clad chain link?
Have you considered powder coated welded wire mesh?

David, have you ever seen the San Jose Airport parking garage? The entire garage is wrapped in what looks to be a galvanized chain link, and then decorated with large "Othello" gameboard chips, to create an amazing artistic tapestry.

Wayne, I have not looked at powder coated welded wire mesh, thanks for that suggestion. This is in an upscale neighborhood, it is a retail building, first floor is retail, the second floor is a mix of retail and lifestyle (fitness center), and the roof is parking. The chainlink is proposed to "conceal" the parking from view.

Jerome, who died and made me the chain link expert?!

I agree with Wayne about PVC coated chain link. I recently saw really tight weave "mini mesh" 3/8 inch to 1 inch openings) and black PVC coated. It looked very nice and is quite high security because it is hard to climb. It also did somewhat obscure the view.

Nathan, I have seen pictures of the San Jose Airport. That is a genius idea and very beautiful!

Actually in Yiddish you would be the Chain Link Maven. Perhaps that comment will bring Dave Metzger out of retirement for a response?

So where do I find mini weave chain link?

Actually I may have been wrong, perhaps it is David Wyatt who is the chain link Maven, calling all Davids who are Chain Link Mavens?

Yesterday I had a knock down drag out fight with a CM who made the mistake of criticizing my specs, his comments were bazzar, it was obvious he had no idea how to write specs, he called me a few inappropriate names, and all through the day I was thinking "children behave". What better way to end the day with a little Tommy James & the Shondelles. Oh if only I was done for the day. Spec deadline for Friday 6pm, it will be a long night.

How about tensioned stainless steel mesh..ala Cambridge or GKD? Yeah...expensive, but looks nice. Used on muni police parking structure upper levels with first floor commercial/retail in downtown area.

Jerome:

Here is a source for mini-mesh, but I think it will be almost as expensive as perforated metal, one reason being that it is difficult to handle in the field.

I hope this helps.

If David Wyatt is the "chain link maven" what does that make me? The "chain link schlub"? That's mashugana!

How about using a green wall fence (green screen)? It would block privacy, look nice and be good for the environment.

WHEN i HAVE FREE TIME, HAH, I WILL CHECK OUT YOUR PAST POSTS MR AXT AND SEE WHAT KIND OF MAVEN YOU ARE.

THIS PROJECT IS REQUIRED TO MEET GREEN BUILDING CRITERIA, I am not that knowledgeable about Green building, in this case it is not LEED, its FGBC, but I am pretty sure a fence does not provide the points they need, besides Green Screen is expensive.
