With that installation, they say you do not have to worry about moisture with the slab. It can handle 99% RH. Therefore no need for testing the slab and no need for the vapor control systems. From what I have heard, there is quite a lot of carpet manufacturer's that have something similar to the LokDots. I haven't heard of any issues yet. |

Jeffrey, Can you please give me comparable products from other carpet manufacturers? The situation I am up against is excessive moisture in slabs that don't allow carpet to be installed the conventional way. I had a situation on a previous project where Mannington Carpet got the low bid, then come time to install the carpet they said the slab was too wet and the owner had to pay $86,000 extra for moisture mitigation system. Shaw Carpet told us that they could have installed the carpet down on a slab with the high moisture content that Mannington refused to install over. David G. The dry adhesive systems have their own limitations, so beware before specifying these. Some institutions have had experience w/ carpet tiles not remaining adhered and now only permit wet adhesive installation. As I understand it, they are particularly vulnerable to edge curling and similar problems in high traffic areas. When these systems were first introduced, I added TacTiles and LokDots to my office master. But in recent years they have rarely been used for projects I have worked on. Perhaps adhesion issues function as a canary in a coal mine. If your carpet stays adhered to a wet slab you may be creating a perfect growth environment for mold that no one will notice because there are no adhesion problems. |
