Is anyone familiar with Shaw LokDots for carpet installation?

With that installation, they say you do not have to worry about moisture with the slab. It can handle 99% RH. Therefore no need for testing the slab and no need for the vapor control systems. From what I have heard, there is quite a lot of carpet manufacturer's that have something similar to the LokDots. I haven't heard of any issues yet.

Jeffrey,

Can you please give me comparable products from other carpet manufacturers?

The situation I am up against is excessive moisture in slabs that don't allow carpet to be installed the conventional way.

I had a situation on a previous project where Mannington Carpet got the low bid, then come time to install the carpet they said the slab was too wet and the owner had to pay $86,000 extra for moisture mitigation system. Shaw Carpet told us that they could have installed the carpet down on a slab with the high moisture content that Mannington refused to install over.

The dry adhesive systems have their own limitations, so beware before specifying these. Some institutions have had experience w/ carpet tiles not remaining adhered and now only permit wet adhesive installation. As I understand it, they are particularly vulnerable to edge curling and similar problems in high traffic areas.

When these systems were first introduced, I added TacTiles and LokDots to my office master. But in recent years they have rarely been used for projects I have worked on.

David,

I would go with Lisa's products. We just had a mannington rep in and they have a product comparable to the LokDots.

Perhaps adhesion issues function as a canary in a coal mine. If your carpet stays adhered to a wet slab you may be creating a perfect growth environment for mold that no one will notice because there are no adhesion problems.
