Apparently Perimate isn't available until early 2018 - what do you all specify for insulating below grade vertical walls? Is 25psi compressive strength generally acceptable for below grade insulation (v perimate's 30 psi)? |

In the Mid-Atlantic region, Type IV Extruded Polystyrene Board (25-psi compressive strength) is most common. That's what Perimate is, but many manufacturers offer this. Jeffrey Wilson CCS CSI SCIP Wilson Consulting Inc Ardmore PA |

Perimate has grooves to improve drainage. I don't see much value there if you're using drainage fill or drainage composite. I'm not convinced a higher compressive strength is required below grade, especially for vertical applications. A compressive strength of 25 psi is the same as 3,600 psf; ask your engineer what the lateral pressure is at the footing. |

Polystyrene beadboard used to be used. I remember one project on a farm where they had a flock of peacocks who loved the stuff! I think that termites & other critters might also like it. |
