I have an installation where the markerboards (name brand from a reputable manufacturer) are being used as projection surfaces for "smart/interactive" applications. They have "hot spots" which are causing issues for students and teachers. This is a first for me. Anyone else have this sort of problem? J. Peter Jordan, FCSI, AIA, CCS, LEED AP, SCIP

Was the markerboard surface designed as a projection screen surface? Ron Geren, FCSI, AIA, CCS, CCCA, SCIP www.specsandcodes.com |

Yes; the manufacturer claims the surface is suitable for both markerboard and projection surface applications. J. Peter Jordan, FCSI, AIA, CCS, LEED AP, SCIP

Maybe they need to change the type of projector to an ultra-short-throw type. Ron Geren, FCSI, AIA, CCS, CCCA, SCIP www.specsandcodes.com |

Peter, Years ago I had the same reflectance issue on markerboards, so I specified low-gloss markerboards. Then the teachers complained the low-gloss markerboards were hard to clean and caused "ghosting". So I went back to specifying regular markerboards. There are manufacturer's recommended procedures for breaking in a new markerboard. These procedures slightly dull the finish since a new markerboard is actually hard to write on because it is too slick. I would check with the manufacturer and see what they recommend. David G.
