We have a team that wants to install all glass doors in stainless steel frames with stops. Because of the stops, pivots won't work and I haven't been able to find surface hinges that have the capacity for the 150 - 160 pounds the leaf will weigh. For design purposes, I've been assuming 3'-0" x 8'-0" 1/2 inch tempered glass.

Any help will be appreciated.

John,

Why can't you use center pivots with floor closers? Floor closers are available for both single-acting and double-acting doors. Is there not enough clearance at the heel of the door, for the door to clear the frame and stop?

Dave - These doors are on access floor, so we can't use floor closers and, as you guessed, there isn't enough clearance at the heal of the door for the door to clear the frame & stop using center pivots.

John,

I've seen surface hinges for glass with a capacity of 130-140 pounds, based on a pair of hinges. For an 8 foot tall door, if you used 4 hinges per leaf, would that work?
