I have specified ceramic tile over access floor utilizing a cementitious underlayment board installed directly over the access flooring with screws, making the access flooring non-accessible. For restroom applications, a waterproofing product is installed over the underlayment board. Also for restroom applications, I recommend moisture sensors, with remote alarms, beneath the access flooring to detect plumbing leaks. Access to the space beneath the now inaccessible access flooring is by crawling from adjacent area below the access flooring which is outside the ceramic tile area. |

We are designing a project right now that does this, so I was just checking mfr information last night to verify the detail. Tate Access has a detail that corresponds to Ronald's description - we are using the same approach. I found the detail here.
