What sealer do I use to seal interior precast stair treads? The idea is to make the treads stain resistant yet not slippery or change the appearance. Do I specify a water repellent? Will the water-repellent admixtures in the precast mix be sufficient without any further coatings? Thanks! David G. Axt, CCS, CSI, SCIP Specifications Consultant Axt Consulting LLC |

Why seal them? Use a high performance water repellent like a siloxane. It penetrates and helps avoid water based stains. Most of the "staining" will be scuffing from heals or dirt ground into surface, so discuss maintenance procedures with owner's maintenance staff.
