A client of mine has asked me about a product called "Suntuitive Self-Tinting Glass" by Pleotint (www.suntuitive.com).

Has anyone specified or used this product before? I don't have any experience with it, so I couldn't answer her inquiry.

Wow, sounds very cool, I'll ask around.
I wonder if the concept is Similar to Privacy Glass?

Jerome:

The Innovative Glass Corp. product you linked to is an electrically-operated system, which is different from the self-tinting types.

However, it appears they incorporate the Suntuitive product in their "SolarSmart" product, so they do have a thermochromic product.

I tried to specify privacy glass on a very high end multi-family project, there was a very knowledgeable person at IGC, I'll check my files.

We used it recently on a Senior Living center. There common room in the southwest corner of the building with tall glass and the owner wanted to try it out. Frankly, nobody has paid much attention to it since it was installed, but having been in that room, it did help reduce the heat gain.

So Russ would you recommend it to future clients, how did the cost compare roughly to the glass for the rest of the building.

A clarification to previous posts: Suntuitive is not an electronically controlled product. The coating darkens as it absorbs heat from the sun. It lightens as it cools. It isn't in the category of Privacy Glass. Even at its darkest state it will not provide full privacy.

Unfortunately, we did not get to see the costs on that project. We are now repeating these buildings at multiple sites and have asked for the cost breakout, just yesterday in fact. It lived up to my expectations and I don't believe the additional cost was unreasonable (we'll know shortly). Interestingly enough I don't believe it was factored into the energy modeling for LEED.

Please keep us up to date Russ, I for one am interested in using this product on a future hospitality/residential project that is geared toward wellness. It is not going to be a LEED project. Of course in SFL there are approvals that must be obtained for use in a hurricane zone.

We had a lunch and learn on this product a few weeks ago. They likened it to eyeglasses that change tint when exposed to sunlight. Both heat and light affect the tint, so the tint is less in winter than summer.
