Have a clay brick piped steam utility tunnel at a major university that is leaking water. Does anyone know of a product that can be applied on the inside of the tunnel like Xypex to stop the water flow. Xypex will only work on concrete and CMU. |

Is the brick cracked? Or does it seem to be leaking at the mortar joints? |

It looks like Koster has products for negative-side waterproofing of masonry. http://www.kosterusa.com/us_en/prodid-95-1848/kd+system.html I think they also have a plaster system if you want a more finished surface than what the system above gives you. |

The Koster product indicates that it is for cementitious products (including masonry). |

Peter I have not seen the issue and I asked my client who has been in the tunnel what part is leaking. I agree the Kosterusa product looks like the way to go. Thanks to the unregistered guest for the suggestion. |

Dean, I've had luck with Aquafin 2k/M, brick is an acceptable substrate, here is the link to the 2015 data sheet: http://www.aquafin.net/cmspdf/--2065-en.pdf I've specified this product to coat the interior of masonry cisterns, never heard a complaint. I am sure Koster manufactures good products, but you always want to offer several options, and IMHO you should consider reaching out to the waterproofing product reps you normally work with, there are probably many products offered by manufacturers you have had success with in the past. |

Keep in mind that there are differences between crystalline waterproofing like Xypex and the Koster products and the acrylic modified cementitious waterproofing like the Aquafin product. I'm not saying which is better for your application, just that there are differences and that a simple direct comparison may not be the most appropriate between Koster and Aquafin products. Kryton is another company that provides crystalline waterproofing if you are looking for a more direct comparison to Xypex and Koster. I do not know if they have systems for use on brick. It would be worth a call to their service reps to find out. |

Xypex also has other repair materials such as Mega Mix I and Mega Mix II, both of which can be used to protect brick. |

You might also consider Gemite's (WR Meadows) Flex-Cote ST--flexible cementitious negative/positive coating. http://www.wrmeadows.com/cem-kote-flex-st-flexible-cementitious-waterproofing/ |
