I like the BL-407 since there is less horizontal surface area to block water draining in back of the insulation (either mineral wool or plastic foam). If I can verify that the thermally broken ones are less expensive, I might switch to those. I would not use the "D" anchors. There is a length of screw between the anchor plate and the stud (usually not less than 1-1/2 inch more likely closer to 2 inches that creates some structural instability. I have heard of cases when the AHJ will require structural analysis if this portion of the screw is too long. Good news, it comes in different sizes for different thicknesses of insulation. Bad news is that it is vertical so the contractor can not use them as a "seat" for the insulation, like the horizontally oriented HB-213, which I have also used. Has anyone seen any problems with the vertical leg (non-shelf) type products such as H-B BL-407? I'd be concerned about the tie binding in the slot. Same concern over time with the horizontal shelf type anchor. The shelf anchors also seem like they provide too much opportunity for water migration issue as the ice and snow melts.
