Anyone have experience specifying these? The "kit" gets installed in a gypsum board box, but my clients aren't sure if a vapor barrier is required, or if glass-mat gyp board is desired etc etc.

I don't have such experience, and I don't know if the kit includes vapor or air barrier in its construction. However, I'd suggest that any time you have a significant difference in the environmental conditions for a space, it should be separated by an air and vapor retarder like an exterior wall. That also requires separate HVAC controls, of course.
