I have a high-rise project where the client wants artificial turf on the occupied rooftop. The turf will be installed over a specialty plastic panel system (Ultrabase) on pedestals. We plan to keep all of the parts (from the pedestals to the turf) as one spec section to get one point of responsibility.

Where should I specify this assembly?

None of Masterformat's current offerings seem quite right - this is not Div. 07 protected membrane or vegetated roofing. And it is not Div. 09 synthetic turf flooring. And it is not Div. 32 synthetic grass surfacing.

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Whatever we do on a roof, the most important thing is for it to keep water out of the building, so one approach would be to specify the artificial turf and plastic panel system as accessory materials in your Division 07 section for waterproofing (preferably hot fluid-applied). MasterSpec already has language for concrete pavers as an accessory material in their version of this section and you could just replace it with the artificial turf & panels.

Another approach is to recognize this as an inverted roof assembly and simply "invent" Section 075566 - Protected Membrane Roofing with Artificial Turf, again relying on green roof specifications for some of the language that would still apply. If you like that idea, you could even write to MasterFormat to propose the new number & title.

I'd probably use 07 55 xx, 32 11 26, 32 18 13, and 33 41 16.19.

If I were going to try to roll it all into a single section, I'd use 07 55 63.99.
