There are a few options to choose from within the models. I've been Spec'ing Schneider units. I can send you my section as a starting point. |

Make sure you specify them with removable anchors so they are easy to remove when the automobile industry's standards for charging stations change -- again. Michael Chusid, RA FCSI CCS 1-818-219-4937 www.chusid.com www.buildingproduct.guru |

Current MasterFormat would put this at 11 1136 - Vehicle Charging Equipment. Where did 11 1240 come from? |

On a related note, a friend (architect) is on the HOA committee at her San Francisco condominium. They are in the planning stages of adding electrical charging to the parking garage spaces for the tenants. The local electrical utility (PG&E) requires that parking spaces with charging stations be a minimum 8.5-feet wide. The existing spaces are 8-feet wide. Re-striping would eliminate parking spaces, so the project is on hold. The building is about 15 years old and I assume met all of the required planning and building codes for parking spaces at the time. I am not sure what the basis of the 8.5-foot requirement on the part of the utility is. |

Marc, MasterSpec has Sections 262743 and 262746, which maybe what you are seeking. |

Steven, this is just speculation but since the charging ports on most vehicles are on the side of the car I suppose the extra six inches allows for clearance to side-step by the connected power cord and make it less likely that the connector is damaged. |

Found this. They are recommending 9' min width. http://www.ct.gov/deep/lib/deep/air/electric_vehicle/ev_siting_and_design_guidelines.pdf |

We've been specifying these frequently. Vehicle charging stations are now standard equipment for new podium style apartment and condominiums. I don't see Architects taking full control on these yet. It's mostly a developer- or owner-driven selection, during construction. As a result, our specification is short and sweet, focusing on full shop drawings, safety requirements, and connection to building electrical systems. Marc is right, the industry is far from mature. I learned about another new charging station start-up in the Boston/Cambridge area, just last month. - |
