I have an interior designer wanting to use solid surface panels (Corian) in a number of different applications - shower surrounds, decorative wall panels, etc. Previously, she had specified all solid surface regardless of application in 12 3600 Countertops. Does it make more sense to specify these panels in 06 8313 Resin Composite Panels? Thoughts? |

Jeremy, I think it makes more sense to put them in separate sections based on applications. One section for countertops, one for shower compartments, one for wall panels. |

Jeremy, following the 'work results' concept, I also think they should be in different sections for different end uses. For example, I sometimes have a client who wants solid surfacing panels for toilet partitions, so I put that in Section 102113 Toilet Compartments. - |

If the designer wants the same product/color/pattern for all applications, that is the primary advantage of specifying all applications in a single section. There are ways of ensuring the same product for different applications specified in different sections, but you need a conscientious contractor to make it happen. |

Off Topic: We have created a 06 60 XX Section specific to 3Form panel fabrications because they are essentially a "no known equal" fabricator that makes both raw sheet goods and finished products that could land in too many Divisions and Sections while there is only one source. At least on paper, solid surfacing has many sources, although only one may be able to match a designer's sample, so we put solid surfacing in separate Sections for casework, counter tops, wall panels, etc. Perhaps if we were using a great deal of solid surfacing involving 5 or more Sections, with bidding spread out over a large time period, I would reconsider. |
