I have an alteration project for a hospital that is installing new MRI equipment and I need a specification (Division 13) for MRI shielding assemblies (e.g., windows, doors, walls, ceilings, floors, etc.). The UFGS has a spec for "RF/EMI Shielding," which is similar shielding for MRI equipment, but the focus of the section is more for military applications and not medical.

I found one guide spec from one manufacturer (National MRI Shielding), but would like to have one that is more generic for comparison.

If someone has a medical-related section they are willing to share, I'd be greatly indebted to you.

Thanks.

Recommendations for any sort of radiation shielding usually comes from a physicist retained by the Owner. They assess the type and amount of radiation and recommend the shielding required.

Does the equipment mfr. have recommendations? If so, make it a performance spec and let the contractor figure it out. ;-)

I am looking at this as a performance spec. Most manufacturers do provide full design services, so that is the direction I want the specification to take.

We typically use MRI Corp out of Santa Ana, CA. They haven't advanced their designs or product much since the 50's, but they are solid and effective, experts in their field, and also get certified without issue. I just wish their doors were better looking :-)
