I am starting to work on a specification for Extech's Kineticwall. (see https://extechinc.com/products/kinetic-wall-dynamic-facade/). This looks like a very interesting product, but I am wondering where to put it. I had though Division 07, but it really is more of a screen (Division 10). It is also a custom designed product that requires engineering services , so I am thinking maybe Division 13. Anyone have any thoughts, and does anyone know of a similar product? J. Looks like a screen to me. I would use 108213 w/ a title like "Exterior Architectural Screens" or perhaps "Exterior Decorative Kinetic Screens." Jeffrey Wilson CCS CSI SCIP Wilson Consulting Inc Ardmore PA |

Sometimes, the product is sort of like the flying Lady hood ornament on a Rolls-Royce. No matter where you put it in the spec, it's not going to get lost. |

I like Steven's approach. Sometimes there is a story that goes beyond the narrow focus of ordinary specification writing. When I looked at the manufacturer's website, my instinct as a journalist took over and I wondered, "what is the greatest value this provides?" The story that will be of greatest value to the architect and owner is that they have created a piece of public art -- something that will visually delight viewers and become a landmark for the community. Identifying it in the project manual as art begins the discussion that will later be advanced by the local press and civic leaders. Share this reasoning with your client (or employer) so they know you see the bigger picture. Michael Chusid, RA FCSI CCS www.chusid.com www.buildingproduct.guru 818-219-4937 |

Obvious to me... 10 71 13 Exterior Sun Control Screen There are motorized screens that go here as well. So a self-activating screen is just another version. |
