I have a project where the Project Architect has called out "cast stone steps with non-slip grit nosing." I have not had any success finding a product (and hopefully guide spec) that fits the bill. The treads are shown solid, approximately 12" wide by 6" deep, and pinned/doweled to the concrete substrate. Anyone have a suggestion? |

Try: http://www.stepstoneinc.com/stair-treads.php They do a lot of custom stuff too, but I have used StepStone by the thousands for large multi-family developers and never had an issue with them |

You might find some useful information on the Cast Stone Institute's website: http://www.caststone.org/ |

Another company offering treads in precast concrete or precast terrazzo is Wausau Tile's Tectura line: http://www.tecturadesigns.com/products/precast-concrete/treads-and-coping I'm not aware of offerings in cast stone. Jeffrey Wilson CCS CSI SCIP Wilson Consulting Inc Ardmore PA |

I second Nathan's suggestion for Stepstone, although their offerings are precast and not cast stone. |

It can be difficult to determine the difference between cast stone and precast, especially if the designer is looking at a small sample. We sometimes specify Concrete Collaborative (formerly Sadlerstone) for precast concrete interior stair treads. |

Thank you all for the information. Looks like it will be very helpful, for my current issue as well as for general info/future reference. I spoke to the Project Architect again this morning to confirm that he really wants cast stone rather than precast. Material wise, he doesn't have a real preference and is more concerned with aesthetics (of course). |
