Have any of you guys specified metal fabrics before? I'm looking at a fabric by GKD to be installed as an exterior facade element, but am unsure which CSI # to use. Thanks in advance for your help! |

Think of it as a component of a larger assembly serving a purpose (i.e., What is the work result?). If it is screening, then maybe 10 82 00 "Grilles and Screens." Ron Geren, FCSI, AIA, CCS, CCCA, SCIP www.specsandcodes.com |

Depends how it is used and what else i have on the project. Frequently, on my projects it ends up in 057000 Ornamental Metal. Make sure someone is looking at how the fabric is secured to the building - is it under structural or delegated design. It often slips through the cracks. |

GKD and Cambridge Metals are very 'architect friendly' and will assist you as much as you let them. Make sure that you're securing the screening evenly so as not to create warped planes or twists unless they're intentional. Primary and secondary supports and tensioning are often involved in free standing work. Even then, since it's not a manufactured screen, I often keep it in the 057000 Decorative Metal series Sections because installation of the various pieces becomes very intricate (if you're not just installing a framed screen). |

I agree with Ken, esp if any of the metal fabric is being used as part of the railings or on the interior. |
