We are thinking about moving BSD to the Cloud. Anyone else here on the Cloud? Any regrets? Any big improvements? |

We have had it for about 7 months. No regrets yet. The biggest improvement is speed for local and regional offices. Faster than the server based version which was somewhat painful to use for regional offices. Gary Berlin, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, CSI Specifications Manager Burns & McDonnell :: Quality Assurance

I've had the cloud version for about a year now. very useful for a specification consultant who often has to work on the lap top when on the road and now out of my son's house while babysitting. I may move my office to his house. His computer is faster :-) |

Thanks folks. Glad to hear that speed is not an issue. Sometimes I wait for 3-4 minutes for a big section to load. I am hoping that will not get worse on the cloud. |

And I thought 20 seconds was slow... I'm a single consultant SpecLink-e Professional user. My concern is the occasional few minutes to respond to a minor update on a random section for no known reason. I just use the time to check my email and notes. They don't post a price for single users. How reasonable is it? |

Richard, they quoted us $500 per user. They also offered us a two day free trial. I will let you know how it goes. I am also bugged by updates that don't seem to change anything. |

I was talking with another couple of SpecLink-e users this past week and we had an idea. BSD can benefit from setting up advisory committees for individual sections. There is a lot of knowledge out here in the wild. Many of us want to help. MasterSpec does it why can't BSD? There are also quite a few of us that have created custom sections that BSD does not have. We would like somewhere like a forum where we can exchange sections. There are some product improvements we would like to make as well. Meeting once a year at the CSI convention where BSD tells us what they are doing, is not enough. I love the program, we just need to take it to another level. |

I am running a two day trial of the cloud version. The text is small and hard to read on my large PC monitor. I think a small laptop screen would be even harder to read. Have you guys found a work around? |

Thanks Gary. I am aware of the zoom button. Unfortunately it only works on the right panel |

Tip of the Day for yesterday was entitled: Updating Master Specification Data stating "you have the choice of updating all SLE master information that has changed." Be extremely careful accepting "all" updates, especially for your office master project. Accepting all updates will potentially delete articles, paragraphs, and sub-paragraphs from your office master. |

You are correct in advising users to be cautious with the updating process. We encourage SpecLink-E users to become familiar with the updating tools, and to be safe practice on a copy of a project or a copy of your office master. While it is true that after accepting updates, a project would be different — that is the purpose, to give users the most up-to-date spec content available. Hence, for anyone familiar with the updating process, once they update a project or an office master, they would know what got updated and/or changed. We also encourage users to contact BSD Tech Support if they have any questions about the update process. For more information on our updating process, please visit http://www.bsdsoftlink.com/index.php/about-bsd/newsletter/linkline/194-updating-in-sle-now-more-automated. Thank you. |
