This one is a new one on me. Working a condo spec, that includes a "pet spa". My architect has provided me with a cut for a coin operated dogwash system to be included in the specs. It comes from Australia. I know it goes in Div 11 but not sure where to place it in that division.
Suggestions?!!!
Thanks

Margaret, does it really matter which section you assign it to in Div 11? This is a condo, if it ever goes into litigation no one will be concerned which spec section was assigned to cover the product. From my experience I never write a spec on specialty equipment for condos, I write a spec that covers the preparation of surfaces to receive the actual equipment and refer to electrical and mechanical specs for the utilitarian requirements.

I see a lot of pet service facilities in rental residential projects these days, dog grooming rooms, pet salons, dog walk and play areas, even on those projects I avoid specifying the actual equipment referring to the Owner for selection and provision.

How about 13 24 XX?? Dogs in the US have more rights and more frills than people in most of the rest of the world. Why shouldn't they have "Special Activity Rooms" too?

I submitted the following proposal to Masterformat in April 2015:

Proposed: 13 17 XX Animal Washing Tubs

Description
Specialized, prefabricated tubs for washing dogs and other animals are, increasingly, being installed outside of kennels, zoos, and veterinary facilities. With pet ownership at an all time high, pet washing facilities are being included in apartment buildings, condominium apartments, recreational and retail facilities, and elsewhere. They are installed in hotels wishing to attract guests with pets, airports and ports with quarantine facilities, and as adjuncts to car washing facilities. Prefabricated tubs are made from stainless steel, plastic, and other materials. They frequently include hair filters, thermostatic valves, sprayers, and other special plumbing trim, pumps for recycling water, soap dispensers, ramps or stairs, animal restraints, non-slip mats, and other features for the convenience and safety of the animal and the washer. While dog washing tubs are sometimes assembled on site, facilities of that type can be specified according to component work results such as waterproofing, ceramic tile, and plumbing trim.

Rationale
While the section could be located in 13 19 00, Kennels and Animal Shelters, the product use is greater than these occupancies. An example of this type of product is at www.foreverstainlesssteel.

I ended up using 11 73 40 Pet Washing Station.
It's a piece of free standing equipment, coin operated. Thanks for the advice my friends.

Thanks for the shout-out. As part of my work with innovative building products, I frequently come across products that do not have appropriate MF numbers or titles. Since 2004, I have submitted 53 proposed changes to MF. About half of them have been accepted.

I have a suggestion, if anyone on the MF committee is reading this. Make proposed changes public (anonymously) and solicit feedback.

I did a section recently 13 19 25 Animal Relief Station for a doggie toilet area in an airport -- complete with drainable substrate, fake grass, fake fire hydrant, hose big and doggie bag holder/disposer.

Anne, as a dog owner (our beloved surrogate now that the children are grown and on their own) and occasional traveler, I applaud your effort and the thoughtfulness of the designer and client for including the doggie toilet area. It sounds like a nice one too.
